Zeto Creative Know-How #2: Screen Resolution vs Print Resolution

Resolution is the term used to describe the number of dots (print), or pixels (screen), used to display a raster image.


The most common units for measuring resolution are DPI (dots per inch), and PPI (pixels per inch). Higher resolutions mean that more dots or pixels are used to create the image, resulting in a crisper, cleaner image.


When printing an image, the digital file the image needs to be at least 300DPI at the actual size you are printing the image. When using an image on screen, the digital file needs to be 72PPI at the actual size you are displaying the image. See examples below.
